You've been auditioning for a while and you're now in a funk. It's because you're either getting nowhere or you're booking roles you're not really wanting. What can you do to break this funk and feel like you've been cursed? Here are some ideas I have for you to consider.
1.) Take a break. I know that sounds anti-helpful, but hear me out. Taking a break (for however long you wish) may be what you need. It will allow you to get out of the audition cycle and focus on yourself for a bit. You can take that cooking class, or read that book, or spend some extra time doing something you've been putting off for a while. It can also allow you to gain some better perspective.
2.) Sign up for a new class. This could be an acting class, dance, clowning, whatever is being offered in your area or online. I do recommend considering taking a class that's different from your focus. Learning a new skill can not only be added to your resume, but it gives you an opportunity to meet new people.
If you'd rather take a class (or two) that focus more on your skills, then look at one that adds value to them. The benefit of any acting class is peer response/feedback and support from the teacher. I appreciate working with my peers because they can give some insight from the perspective as a fellow performing artist.
3.) Private coaching. It may be that you could use some 1:1 help with your auditioning. One of the benefits of private coaching is having the sole focus on you. You're able to take more control about things you want to work on.
4.) Update your Audition Package. This could be headshots, resume, audition materials, your type, etc. For something like this I'd recommend consulting with an Acting Coach who specializes in one or many of these things. You may want to work with more than one coach to get a few perspectives, or because they each specialize in something specific you're interested in.
5.) Lastly I'll leave you with this - opinions are like bodies, we all have one. Don't do any of these things solely with the intent they will instantly fix the problem and pull you out of your funk. They won't. What they can do is be a stepping stone to help you get out of your funk and back to where you would like to be. I personally feel like when we approach things with this mindset it can be much easier.
